Albendazole is most commonly used in combination with other anthelmintics such as mebendazole or praziquantel for the treatment of hydatid disease. The safety and efficacy of albendazole used alone for treatment of hydatid cysts in the liver is not established. Several studies have suggested that albendazole may be less effective than mebendazole or praziquantel.
