Hey devs and builders,
With AI, remote work, open source, and global funding becoming more accessible — I"m wondering: What"s the smarter move in 2025–2030 — to build your own tech company or join a stable corporation with thousands of employees?
I see pros and cons on both sides:

🧱 Starting your own company:
✅ Pros:
Full creative control: your product, your team, your rules.
Unlimited upside (if it works).
You build something that reflects your values, not someone else"s.
❌ Cons:
High risk of failure.
Long runway before you see revenue (if ever).
Stress, uncertainty, and personal responsibility for everything.

🏢 Joining a big tech company (2K–10K+ people):
✅ Pros:
Steady salary, benefits, and work-life balance.
Learn from large-scale systems, global teams, and experienced engineers.
Build capital, confidence, and skills before going solo.
❌ Cons:
Bureaucracy, internal politics, limited innovation.
Your impact might be hard to measure or feel.
Might feel like "golden handcuffs" over time.

🌍 Realities of 2025–2030:
AI startups are exploding, but the competition is brutal.
VCs are still active, but the bar is higher than ever.
Corporate stability still matters in uncertain economies (especially post-2024).

💬 So… what path are you taking?
Are you already building something on the side?
Anyone here who left a FAANG or unicorn to start their own company?
Any advice for choosing between "freedom + risk" vs "security + scale"?
Would love to hear your stories or regrets. Let"s get a conversation going. 👇

  • What kind of person or people are you looking for to join the team/project? Which areas or roles need strengthening, and in what aspects? (Alternative: What profile are you seeking for the team/project? What functions need reinforcement?)
  • What qualities should a potential candidate possess? (Alternative: What are the key attributes you look for in a candidate?)
  • What is the work schedule/mode (e.g., office, remote, hybrid)? Is overtime common or expected?
  • How mature is the company/corporation in terms of its IT practices, infrastructure, and processes?
  • What are the goals for the team and the IT department for 2025-2027? What challenges were faced (or have been faced) during 2023-2025?
  • Has the company addressed issues with toxic individuals or underperformers? Are there mechanisms and tools in place for performance management or filtering out unsuitable candidates/employees? (More diplomatic alternative: How does the company handle underperformance or individuals who negatively impact the team environment? Are there established processes to address such situations?)
  • How recently have the CEO, CTO, or CIO positions changed? (Alternative: When did the current CEO, CTO, CIO assume their roles?)
  • What are the corporation"s/company"s market plans for 2025-2030? How significantly has the IT team changed between 2021 and 2025?
